Ber,

“If you can’t explain a concept in simple terms, then you don’t truly understand it.”

The Feynman Technique is an effective learning method proposed by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Richard Feynman. Its core principle is:“If you can’t explain a concept in simple terms, then you don’t truly understand it.”

It only takes four steps:

1. Choose a concept you want to learn
For example: “coffee,” “gravity,” or “compound interest.”

2. Explain it in your own words, as if you were teaching a child
Avoid technical terms. Use the simplest language possible—like telling a story.

3. Identify areas where you get stuck, and go back to fill in the gaps
If you can’t explain something clearly or get stuck, it means you haven’t fully grasped it. Go back, learn it again, and fix those weak spots.

4. Simplify, use analogies, and reorganize your explanation
Try using metaphors or examples to make your explanation more understandable. The simpler and smoother it sounds, the better you’ve learned it.

The core idea of the Feynman Technique is “output-based learning”—shifting from simply reading and memorizing to truly explaining and applying.

Once you can clearly explain something, you’ve basically mastered it.

Output-based learning includes discussing, practicing, and teaching others. It’s active learning.

Input-based learning, like listening to lectures, reading, or watching videos, is passive learning.

Only through output-based learning can you build your own knowledge system—one that sticks with you and is hard to forget.
